How many times have I been asked (or told) “I bet you have so many beautiful pictures of your own child.” Well…. sure. If you count snapshots on my iphone. But, there are a few times each year when I have an all-out planned photo session with Willow that involves lots of bribery in advance of the session and ends with some sugar (and I do not mean in the Southern way, I mean the substance that makes kids act like wild animals). Yup… so this was one of those times. And really, she couldn’t have been sweeter or more cooperative. She did everything that I (and my helper Meg) asked her to do.
Looking at these photos of her, she appears to be the most ethereal, dainty child ever to wear a wreath of boxwood and gauzy princess dress. But, those who know her know what a wonderfully quirky child she is! She does love to dress up like a princess and carry her baby around, but her “baby” is a 14″ tall poseable Godzilla toy. She has never met a snake she didn’t love, and her knowledge of dinosaurs would rival any paleontologist. Ok, maybe that last part was a bit exaggerated, but she does love her some prehistoric carnivores. Any spider caught must be safely placed outside so that it can find it’s mommy. And does she love to dance and sing. We normally begin each morning with some music and a dance session. And I must brag that my daughter has excellent taste in music. No Justin Beiber or Lady Gaga here (yet).
I decided to stage this photo session in my friend’s field with lots of what I call “fairy grass”. The light hits it for 30 minutes in the evening and the “fairies” glow…. just magical! And Willow looks a bit elfin anyway, so it just kind of worked.
My true purpose for this session with Willow is actually for something else that I’m working on with a local jewelry maker. We have been collaborating on something SO amazing, SO special, and SO different that I’m pretty sure it’s going to take Charlotte by storm. We have created one piece for a very special client of mine and I just had to have one my own. I can’t wait to share the results with you!
