A Happy Love Fest with a Beautiful Charlotte Family

August 23, 2012

I have had the pleasure of working with this family a few times and every time I love them more and more!  I looked forward to this session so much because Mom is a Pinterest-ista and always has great ideas for shots (the feet shot was her idea!).  These sweet kids are full of personality and it is obvious how much big sister adores her baby brother.  It is never hard for me to get her to snuggle her brother which is awesome for me as a photographer!  The whole family are super affectionate with each other and full of joy and laughter.  And I’m not even going to mention the obvious: they are all ridiculously beautiful.  Mom is the quintessential Charlotte girl– blonde, fresh-faced, no need for makeup and a smile that starts deep within and spreads to everyone around her.  As lovely as she is outside, she is inside as well!  I cherish my time working with them!

Thank you Y family <3

The Best Session Yet

August 6, 2012

I’ve been working with this family for years.  I think as a photographer, when you continue to work with a family time and again, there is a certain honesty that comes through the pictures that you can’t always get on the first session.  Maybe I get attached to the family because I feel like I know them personally, photographing their life’s major milestones.  Maybe the kids get used to me, and the guards come down quicker.

Anyway… looking through these photos, I think my love for this family is as evident as their love for each other.  They are truly the perfect family to photograph.  Their style is effortless, their kindness is tangible, and their interactions with each other are so authentic.  I truly think it takes several sessions to get to this level of comfort.  And this session is the perfect example.  In my opinion, these are our best portraits to date!!

I had the idea to somehow use this awesome vintage bike in a family session (AKA Mama Cass… she’s been in some of my wedding and big kid/ teen portraits but this is her debut in a family photo session).  It worked out better than I even imagined!!  I love it when that happens!!! :)

Thank you again T family… A, S, A and C….  everyone that knows you knows that you are just as lovely inside as you are in these portraits!

Mama warned me about this baby… she could possibly be the happiest, sweetest little chunk-a-love ever.  Well was her temperament was put to the test the day of our photo session and she lived up to her happy nature and then some.  Here is a rundown of the day and why miss L is so special.

They get out of the car and my heart immediately melts into a puddle.  She smiles.  She coos.  She snuggles her daddy.  Once the camera comes out, she just shines.  It’s a baby photographer’s dream-come-true family session!  Four outfit changes and with a few breaks for “puffs”, she was going strong!  Mama grew up on a farm around horses, so I wanted to incorporate horses somehow.  Baby L was definitely interested in them!  Now here is where the story gets sad, so viewer beware!  Make sure you have a box of tissues on hand.

I suggest we let little L pull up on a fence near the horses so she can “stand” by herself.  So Papa puts her down on the grass and she holds onto the fence.  All of a sudden the horse nearby startles and runs off.  And in the next second, baby L lets go of the loudest cry I’ve ever heard an almost one year old baby make.  We look and realize the reason is that there is a next of hornets right by her that has been stirred up, and one is on her!!!  She got stung!!!  On her sweet little chubby cheek!!!

It was terrible!!  I felt awful about it.  I wasn’t sure if the session could go on.  But…  true to her nature, after a few snuggles from Mom and Dad, and some snacks, she was all smiles again!  So, we got to do the shot that we had been planning… the obligatory first birthday cake smash!  Complete with balloons, a vintage high chair, and the happiest baby ever!

Thank you so much B family!!!!!
