Charlotte Parent Magazine shoot with NASCAR babies

i was invited to photograph for charlotte parent magazine a story of the families and babies that work on nascar driver jamie mcmurray’s car in the race. apparently there was a huge baby boom this year– 6 new babies and one will be here any day! amazing!

these families are adorable and the babies are so sweet!

there will be a big story in charlotte parent next month, so watch out for it!

they may be speedy tire changers, but i’ll challenge any of these fella’s to a speed diaper change!

when my husband and i first moved to charlotte, we befriended this awesome couple. chris and patrick both were interested in electronic music and fishing and ellie and i just hit it off where we never seemed to run out of things to talk about. this was long before either of us had a baby, so we spent many late nights drinking wine, playing games, doting on our spoiled dogs, and being carefree young adults together.

life with children limited the time we’ve seen each other in the past few years, and i was thrilled that they chose me as their photographer to make little r’s one year baby portrait. baby r could not have a more caring, perfect mommy and daddy. they fill her life with happiness and love. and she fills them too! she is one lucky baby. and they are lucky parents….

dear baby boy,

your parents couldn’t wait till your arrival. i first met them (and you) when i did your mother’s maternity session. they were so obviously in love, so thrilled with their pregnancy, and so ready to hold you. you just came along and fit right into the family so perfectly!

you are a tiny but strong little newborn! you hardly fussed at all, but actually lifted your tiny head so you could look around. you actually smiled for me several times!

and yawned big yawns…

and slept…

welcome to the world, you are going to be very, very loved by everyone that meets you.

dear little miss e…

the day that i met you was a sweltering hot charlotte day. your parents were some of the sweetest people i’ve ever met and obviously adored their new baby. you opened your eyes so wide to look around, you wanted to see everything. normally, newborns aren’t so alert! you looked at me, at my crazy looking camera and photographer gear, your beautiful mommy, your loving daddy and your doting, protective doggies. you heard a dog bark in the distance and i could tell you wanted to follow that noise in curiosity… what is it? where is it coming from?

mommy and daddy held you and rocked you and then you fell asleep… a sleep that took you to beautiful dream lands while i snapped away!

thank you, little e! you are so sweet and one day you will look back on these pictures and will be amazed at how tiny you once were!

so many of you know i am from annapolis, it’s my hometown. i was referred to this adorable couple through a charlotte family portrait client (thanks stacy and gary btw) whom i’ve photographed on several occasions. so… back to my hometown for a wedding weekend!

you know it’s a fun wedding when someone ties their tie around their head and belts out journey…

these sisters are so sweet and such a joy to photograph.

their mother is a child photographer as well, so they are used to having their pictures snapped a billion times a day. i can see how any photographer would be immediately enamored with them!

when i met this little lady i couldn’t help but exclaim what i’m sure every other person that sees her thinks: ’she looks like a baby doll!’. she is absolutely beautiful, and her equally beautiful parents obviously adore her to bits! we had a long session, i really pushed her to her little one-year-old limits (which can be pretty limiting sometimes) and she responded with the sweetness and perfection of… a baby doll. even when it was pretty obvious that she was tired and we were past nap time, she kept giving my camera the most precious little pouts that i finally had to force myself to put the lens cap back on and zip my camera away. a delayed nap was definitely worth it!

my nephew! he calls me “aunt backup” which i love. he is one of those kids that are 110% boy. he runs, he plays with cars and trains, and we make up games where we have to run from crocodiles and dolphins (dolphins, you ask?? apparently some 2 year olds find them threatening). i’ve been promising his mom and dad that i’d do a portrait session with him and we finally got around to it last month. it was a very hot day up in western md when my brother and i took him out and about down some country roads, but the heat and humidity had no effect on ryan’s enthusiasm. it did take an entire package of smarties- bribery, but the portraits are well worth it! after all, a sugar rush only lasts an hour or two, while pictures are forever

wonderful is the only word i can use to describe the results of this session.

what began as a rocky start with questionable weather ended up being a completely perfect portrait session. this little guy was so easy to work with, a photographer’s dream! it could have been the awesomeness of the location we were at, patterson farms, a local pick-your-own farm with fresh market that is north of charlotte. but i think i was the adorableness of this three year old boy and his beautiful mother. he loved the animals there, and they seemed to love him too. he was such a joy to work with and even helped me pick out veggies to take home.
