baby doll

when i met this little lady i couldn’t help but exclaim what i’m sure every other person that sees her thinks: ’she looks like a baby doll!’.  she is absolutely beautiful, and her equally beautiful parents obviously adore her to bits!  we had a long session, i really pushed her to her little one-year-old limits (which can be pretty limiting sometimes) and she responded with the sweetness and perfection of… a baby doll.  even when it was pretty obvious that she was tired and we were past nap time, she kept giving my camera the most precious little pouts that i finally had to force myself to put the lens cap back on and zip my camera away.  a delayed nap was definitely worth it!

how i love this kid….

my nephew!  he calls me “aunt backup” which i love.  he is one of those kids that are 110% boy.  he runs, he plays with cars and trains, and we make up games where we have to run from crocodiles and dolphins (dolphins, you ask?? apparently some 2 year olds find them threatening).  i’ve been promising his mom and dad that i’d do a portrait session with him and we finally got around to it last month.  it was a very hot day up in western md when my brother and i took him out and about down some country roads, but the heat and humidity had no effect on ryan’s enthusiasm.  it did take an entire package of smarties- bribery, but the portraits are well worth it!  after all, a sugar rush only lasts an hour or two, while pictures are forever :)

wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! charlotte children’s photography

wonderful is the only word i can use to describe the results of this session.

what began as a rocky start with questionable weather ended up being a completely perfect portrait session.  this little guy was so easy to work with, a photographer’s dream!  it could have been the awesomeness of the location we were at, patterson farms, a local pick-your-own farm with fresh market that is north of charlotte.  but i think i was the adorableness of this three year old boy and his beautiful mother.  he loved the animals there, and they seemed to love him too.  he was such a joy to work with and even helped me pick out veggies to take home.

working with the kids and moms behind Charlotte Smarty Pants

if you haven’t been to the charlotte smarty pants blog, i suggest you surf on over and enjoy this smorgasbord of parenting info.  you will find everything from the best of local activities to musings about motherhood to product reviews.  i had the pleasure of working with these amazing moms and their (very patient) husbands and children.  we perused noda for some great urban-scape family shots.  although time was limited with each group, we got some great images and i can’t wait to see them in action on their blog!

perfect family, perfect session

on my way to this session i realized that i had lost my lucky bracelet that i have always had on my wrist at every photo session or wedding in the past 3 years. being a slightly superstitious person, it made me very nervous and i wondered if i was going to be cursed with bad photo mojo. as soon as this family pulled up, i completely forgot about my lost bracelet and proceeded to have one of my best sessions EVER, no bracelet necessary!

i love non-conservative families, being kind of a hippie chick myself. it melts me to see a beautiful baby girl against her daddy’s tattooed arm. this family just oozed happiness and love for one another… i think the french call it joie de vivre! they were such a delight.

Charlotte NC Portrait of baby girl on a vintage scooter photograseriously, i don’t think i’ve ever seen a baby that was *this* happy to be in front of the camera!  she was amazing… anytime the camera lens pointed at her, she was overcome by the hugest smile ever.

my favorite Charlotte children’s boutique clothier…

Daffodils and Daisies had me photograph their spring collection!  I *love* these clothes, Carrie is one seriously talented designer/seamstress.  If ever you are wondering what on earth to dress your children in for portrait sessions with me, look no further.  She can even do matching sibling outfits if that’s the sort of thing you’re into.  We may be doing a collaboration later this spring on vintage style threads for vintage style sessions… stay tuned!

the time of the year

So much has been going on.  I’ve been so busy I truly feel like I can’t catch my breath.  I have been swamped with holiday portraits, and Willow just turned two, and a little trip to MD was thrown into the mix.  I haven’t updated images here in a while, and I do promise to but it might not be for a while.  There is this ever-growing list on my desk of things to do.
