The first time that I photographed this family was after their first daughter’s birth. I was thrilled to hear that they were expecting another baby and wanted me to be their newborn photographer again. Each time I work with newborns that have toddler aged siblings, I say a little prayer before the photo shoot. It can be difficult to get two year olds to cooperate. I do have several tricks that I use (and I am not above bribery when it comes to getting the perfect shot either, and have even resorted to photoshop magic once). For this photo shoot, no bribery or photoshop magic was necessary! Big sister was absolutely sweet and cooperative. We got some of the most beautiful pictures of the sisters together. It made my heart happy.
When photographing newborn babies with an older sibling, I always feel like it is so important to make the older child feel so important. I was a big sister once and I know how it feels to have people come and fawn all over the new baby. I make sure to fuss over them first, and then when the time is appropriate, enlist their “help” in photographing the baby. They love this! Sometimes, there are these magical moments when things just really click. This photo shoot is a perfect example!
Thank you I family 🙂
